I'm nervous

and I feel unprepared, even though I'm probably packing more than I need. I never got my hair cut, I'm bringing baggy clothes, and I feel like I don't know enough about Ecuadorian culture and world news. I'm worried I'm gonna stand out as an ignorant American... but maybe that's natural.

    I think the fact that you are conscious of the "ignorant American" stereotype issue means that you have avoided it. Relax, you are going to have tons of fun!

    You'll have a great time. There's no possible way you can know about everything that is significant to a country, your host family, etc. Go in w/ an open mind and heart, and it is great you acknowledge your lack of awareness. If you're looking for research topics, please learn all you can about chocolate making in the jungle. I'm such a fan and would love to know more:)
